Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know when swim meets or practice are cancelled due to weather?
A: Bad weather? We have set up an alert system through Swimtopia to alert you of swim practice and swim meet cancellations due to weather. When lightning or thunder occurs, all swimmers will be cleared from the pool deck to wait in their vehicles or another safe place until the "all clear" is announced. The meet or practice will resume 30 minutes after the last occurrence of lightning or thunder. If weather conditions are too hazardous to continue, the meet will be rescheduled by the coaches and meet directors of each team.
It is highly recommended for parents to download the Swimtopia app! This app will serve as the communication portal throughout the season. On the Swimtopia App you will be able to receive Team Alerts for weather delays/cancellations, as well as view upcoming meets, volunteer commitments, and swim results. More information about the app is available here.
Q: What equipment do I need to swim?
A: Your swimmer will need a swimsuit, swim cap and goggles for practice and meets. It is required that female swimmers wear a one piece bathing suit at practice and the team swim meets. Male swimmers may wear swim trunks at practice and the team suit at meets.
Q: Do swimmers have to wear a swim cap?
A: All swimmers with hair longer than their ears should wear a swim cap. A latex "GOLD" swim cap is provided with your registration. Silicone swim caps are available for purchase. A "GOLD" swim cap is encouraged for team identity and team spirit at swim meets.
Q: What is the minimum age to join the swim team?
A: Swimmers must be 4 years of age before May 31, 2025.
Q: What is the cost to join the swim team?
A: The first swimmer in the household is $160, second and third swimmers in the same household are $150 each, additional swimmers in the same household are $25 each.
Q: What is the attendance policy?
A: Swimmers should come to as many of their age group practices as possible. We understand that the end of the school year is a busy time, but consistent practice is what will help the swimmers improve. Swimmers may only swim with their corresponding age group unless given permission by the head coach.
It is not necessary to notify the coach if you are going to miss practice, but it is required to notify the coach if you are missing a swim meet.
If your child is ill or an emergency occurs and your child will miss a meet, please notify the head coach, team volunteer coordinator and tent parent promptly so that adjustments may be made.
Q: Can my swimmer swim with a year-round team while swimming with the First Colony Gold?
A: No. Swimmers must disassociate from any competitive swim team by April 30. Please read entire SHRSL policies and procedures.
Q: How can I import all the swim meets onto my calendar?
A: Go to the the Schedule\Swim Meet Schedule Tab and click subscribe. This will update most commonly used calendar systems.
Q: Can I get a refund?
A: If you choose to withdraw your child(ren) prior to May 12th, you will receive a 50% refund minus $25. No refunds will be issued after May 12th.
